The Japanese-German Business Association (DJW) and the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) cordially invite you to share ideas, contacts and information on business related topics at our “DJW Kai” in Frankfurt. Our guests will be welcomed by Tadayuki Nagashima (Executive Vice President, JETRO) and Gerhard Wiesheu (Chairman, DJW). A speech will be held in English, but questions can be posed and comments or announcements can be made in Japanese or German as well.

Topic: “Toward Strengthening the Economic Relationship between Japan and EU”, Speaker: Professor Dr. Yorizumi Watanabe, Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University Japan

A number of large-scale Free Trade Agreements (FTA) are recently being discussed worldwide. Besides the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP) and the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the negotiations regarding the Economic Partnership Agreement between Japan and the EU (EPA) have been intensified. Against this background, Mr. Van Rompuy, President of the European Council, Mr. Barroso, President of the European Commission, and Prime Minister Abe jointly declared last November that negotiations on the EPA would be “pressed forward towards the earliest possible conclusion”.

Our speaker will share his insights into the Japanese FTA policy and the significance of the Japan-EU FTA for both economies. He will answer the question how the FTA could affect the economic relationship between Japan and the EU and Germany respectively. He will also comment on the next steps which will be taken in spring 2014.
